The Staten Island Orioles began operating in 2006, with a single 13-year-old team, participating in local leagues, and tournaments. Today we have 10 teams in various age groups as young as 8u and as old as 18u.
During the course of our brief history, our organization has been fortunate enough to win 5 Staten Island Federation Championships, 3 NYC Federation Championships, 2 Perfect Game Northeast Invitational Championships, 2 Blue Chip Northeast Elite Championships and numerous others, as well as being Runner Up in over 15 National and Regional tournaments.
On an individual player note, we have placed over 200 players in colleges, ranging from Division 1 schools to Junior Colleges. We’ve had 3 Perfect Game All-Americans, 6 Perfect Game All-Northeast Region selections, numerous players in the Top 1000 rankings, and Top 500 rankings produced by Perfect Game. We’ve had over 50 Staten Island Advance All Stars, which is the equivalent of the All-County team for the borough of Staten Island (Richmond County). We’ve had 9 All-State Players from the states of NY and NJ, as selected by ESPN, 2 Staten Island Position Player of the Year Awards, 3 Staten Island Pitcher of the Year awards, 5 consecutive winners of Overall Player of the Year awards as selected by the Staten Island Old Timers Committee, and 4 Under Armor All-Americans. Additionally, we are not limited to just the state of NY. We boast numerous selections for All-County and All-State in NJ as well. Many of our players have played pivotal roles for the high schools in winning NYC Championships, both public and Catholic, as well as NJ State Championships.
Graduates of our program continue to shine on the field, and in the classroom. Former players have been recognized as a Louisville Slugger All-American, and played in the College World Series as well as won All-Regional, All-Conference, Reliever of the Year, Rookie of the Year on the conference level. What we’re most proud of, is having over 20 All-Academic Conference Selections to date.
2014 became the first year we had former players move to the professional ranks. 3 Orioles players were drafted, Kevin Krause (9th round), Mike Sullivan (29th round) and Scott DeJong (32nd round), all heard their names called. Additionally, Kyle Kennett signed a contract to play professionally in Europe.
Our organization prides itself, first and foremost, on molding young men, into responsible, well-rounded adults. Our priority is to create student-athletes, with the emphasis on “student”. We believe that baseball can be used as a vehicle to open doors and opportunities to attain an education at schools that they might not normally attend.
